The May RRVS meeting was the RRVS' annual picnic/elections and was held Thursday, 5/29/08, at Hamilton Sundstrand Park, in Belvidere, IL.

Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. for his informative presentation on Development and Validation of IC Models for EMC, and to the Rockford Robotics Team for their presentation on the 2008 robotics design, build and compete season, and for bringing their robot and videos of it in operation to the meeting.

We extend our thanks to Tokyo University's Prof Hirofumi Akagi for his insightful talk on uses of state-of-the-art power electronics to improve power quality, and for sharing practical applications using the technology in Japan. We are greateful that Prof Akagi included a stop in Rockford on his trip from Japan.

The tour covered sales, marketing, design, manufacturing and test of the variable speed drives for induction motors product line in the newly built 125,000 square foot facility north of Riverside and I-90 on Bell School Road. Thanks go out to RRVS section members Larry Pairitz and Matt Zimmer for facilitating the tour.

The presentation was Recent Developments of Bearingless/Self-Bearing Drives by Professor Yohji Okada from Ibaraki University in Japan. This was a joint meeting of the local sections from the IEEE and ASME.
